The Flamin’ Oh’s with Faith Boblett, Friday, Cabooze
It’s been a psychological lift to the see iconic Cabooze on Cedar Avenue back in business, rising from the literal ashes of nearby unrest fires, the pandemic, and changing tastes around the West Bank. To celebrate, the bar has been hosting a series of 50th Anniversary comeback concerts with acts such as the Suburbs and Lamont Cranston. The series continues this weekend with a chance to see both a legendary group, and a possible future star. The Flamin’ Oh’s were a delight this past summer at the Parkinson’s Foundation Minnesota fundraiser at Hook and Ladder. Even after 48 years in business they’ve maintained their melodic strength and assured stage presence. They’re now essentially an all-star band with Oh’s keyboardist Bob Burns, returning drummer Ben Kaplan, much-in-demand guitarist Terry Isachsen, and now featuring bassist Jenny Case, equally famous as director of She Rock She Rock music school. Band leader Robert Wilkinson personally selected the show’s opener, Faith Boblett, whose enjoyed airplay on 89.3 the Current and a widening list of bookings all around the metro. The Flamin’ Oh’s with special guest Faith Boblett, Friday, December 6, Cabooze Bar, 917 Cedar Ave. Doors 7:30, Music 8:15,, $18 advance online, $25 day of show. There are numerous opportunities to see a cavalcade of local musicians at various tribute shows and other special events this week. Robert Wilkinson and Gini Dodds will sing a Pogues classic at the Belfast Cowboys Caravanaoke, where dozens of other singers will front the band on Van Morrison songs, or tunes he’d surely love. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7-11 pm, Driftwood Char Bar, 4415 Nicollet Ave., or CARAVANAOKE 12/10/24, Driftwood Char Bar, 7:00 - 11:00 | Facebook

The outpouring of appreciation by the musicians involved in She Rock n Roulette was pretty staggering to this old man. Musical assurance and skill varied, of course - that's kind of the darn point, duh -- though there were definitely some promising groups and individuals. But it was clearly about so much more than just that to so many of the players who stepped up and dove in.
